Zhang retained her belt after managing to win a split decision. It was a battle for the ages as both the warriors were left bloodied and bruised at the end of the contest.

The strawweight division is full of contenders with the likes of Rose Namajunas, Marina Rodriguez, Claudia Gadelha, and more on the rise.

Therefore, the UFC is planning to put Zhang back in action sooner rather than later. The promotion is trying to host an event in Singapore in April. They want the Chinese powerhouse to headline the card.

The talks are still in the early stages and anything concrete is yet to materialize. But the possibilities are very high. The last event that was held in Singapore took place in October 2019 with Ben Askren and Demian Maia headlining the card.

They are looking to go back to that region of the world again and they want Zhang, a regional superstar, to attract fans by defending her crown.

Who should Weili Zhang face?

There are plenty of options available for the striking sensation. Fan-favorite Rose Namajunas will be the ideal opponent for Zhang. But negotiations have broken down several times between Namajunas’s camp and the UFC. So, the promotion is trying to set up Carla Esparza to face Zhang next.
