Julianna Pena shook the world at UFC 269 with her splendid performance. She defeated probably the greatest female fighter in the world and became the new UFC women’s bantamweight champion. After their bout, many believed a rematch was inevitable.

As UFC has scheduled the two to coach against each other for the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF-30), they will rematch later this year.

During an interview with ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, ‘The Venezuelan Vixen’ had some thoughts about her title victory and her critics.

She said, “I think she’s probably stung a little bit, you know, she’s probably stung, and especially with the help of the machine building her up to be this unbeatable force, I think that it’s really kind of played into her head a little bit, you know, and I think that.”

“That’s the beauty of fighting, is we get to run it back, we get to hush the naysayers up one more time, we get to do it all over again and so if there were doubters before they think that it was just a fluke. No problem, because we’re going to do it again,” added Pena.

Pena’s win might have come as a surprise for many, but she always believed that the matchup against ‘The Lioness’ favored her.

She had been asking for this fight since UFC 200, when Nunes won the belt against Miesha Tate. Eventually, when she got the chance to fight Nunes, she capitalized on it and won.

For a long time, ‘The Venezuelan Vixen‘ believed ‘The Lioness’ was avoiding her. She thought with her wrestling and cardio, she was always a problem for Nunes. Despite her beliefs, Nunes denied this.

Interestingly, she suspected weakness in the mental game of the former double champ, and said that she has a tendency to quit under pressure. Thus, she kept bringing up Nunes’ UFC 178 loss to Cat Zingano.

And in many regards, Nunes’ performance looked similar to how she performed in that fight against Zingano.
