UFC 300 will see huge title implications set for the fight between Arman Tsarukyan and Charles Oliveira. The surging contender will take on the former champion, with both fighters coming off KO wins in their last fights. Before we get to the fight this weekend, let us take a look at the records and statistics of their careers so far.

The lightweight division is teeming with talent and yet there is a shortage of opponents for Islam Makhachev. Why? Because most of the top contenders just fought or are booked to fight. So the spotlight is now on Arman Tsarukyan and Charles Oliveira, either of whom could fight Makhachev with a UFC 300 win. Now, let’s see how they fare against each other in terms of numbers.

When we get to August 2024, Charles Oliveira will have completed 14 years since he first fought under the UFC banner. Arguably one of the most tenured fighters in Dana White‘s promotion, ‘Do Bronxs’ has 44 fights in his MMA career so far. He has amassed a record of 34 wins, 9 losses and 1 no-contest. 10 of his 34 wins have come by knockouts, while 21 of them have come by submission.

‘Do Bronx’ has a 22-9-1 UFC record. He holds the record for most finishes in UFC history with 20. Additionally, the Brazilian also holds the record for most submission wins with 16. Oliveira has a striking accuracy of 53%, a striking defense of 51%, and a strong takedown defense of 55%.

Charles Oliveira has fought the who’s who of the UFC’s lightweight division, including Paul Felder, Clay Guida, and Jim Miller to name a few. While he debuted in 2014, it was not until 2018 that we started seeing the Oliveira we know today.

Between 2018 and 2022, the Chute Boxe representative went on an 11-fight win streak, effectively clearing out most of the top five rankings of the UFC lightweight division. He knocked out Michael Chandler at UFC 262 to claim the vacant 155 lbs title. His first defense was against Dustin Poirier, whom he beat via submission.

Before his second title defense against Justin Gaethje, the athletic commission stripped Charles of his title for missing weight. Nevertheless, Oliveira won the fight via a first-round submission. In 2022, Oliveira contested for the vacant lightweight belt for the second time in his career, this time against Islam Makhachev. Unlucky for him, the Russian won the bout via a second-round submission.

Now, the rankings have seen some movements, and Arman Tsarukyan is in the top 5. Will he be cannon fodder for the Brazilian? Let’s see what the numbers have to say.

In just a few days, 27-year-old Arman Tsarukyan will complete five dominant years of fighting under the UFC banner. Interestingly, his UFC career did not start well. Tsarukyan lost his debut match against now-champion Islam Makhachev via decision. But that defeat did not deter him from making an impact in the lightweight division. ‘Ahalkalakets’ racked up an impressive 5-fight winning streak following his first loss. This number includes Matt Frevola, Davi Ramos, Olivier Aubin-Mercier, Christos Giagos, and Joel Alvarez.

Tsarukyan suffered his second and last defeat in the UFC against Mateusz Gamrot in 2022, but came back to win another three fights in a row, defeating the likes of Damir Ismagulov, Joaquim Silva, and Beneil Dariush. ‘Ahalkalakets’s strong suit is his takedown defense, which stands at 75%. His striking defense is almost on par with Oliveira at 54% with a slightly lesser striking accuracy of 48%.
