Dan Hooker beat Jalin Turner via split decision in a potential fight-of-the-year contender at UFC 290. The #12 and #11 stars got fans on their feet as they put on a three-round slugfest. Hooker weathered the early onslaught from Turner, taking back control in the second and then dominating the third round.

Dan Hooker and Jalin Turner were set to fight at UFC 285 in March. However, the New Zealander had to pull out due to a hand injury. Turner then fought Mateusz Gamort who stepped in on short notice and lost a close decision.

The fight picked up pace in the first round as the 6’3″ Turner kept firing from range. A towering figure himself, the 6 ft. tall Hooker picked his shots and invested in kicks. Things got heated toward the end of the first round as the lightweights kept going back and forth, giving no quarter.

The fight only got better as Turner found his range and picked Hooker apart in the second, opening a cut on his forehead with a perfect head kick. As things started to look bleak for the City kickboxing captain, he went on a blitz late in the round, backing Turner against the cage. As the fight went to the ground, Hooker locked in a rear naked choke but the clock saved Turner.

It was more of the same in the third as Hooker kept the pressure on Turner and maintained dominance on the ground. After the fight, two out of three judges agreed Hooker was the better fighter tonight.

Fans react to the barnburner between Dan Hooker and Jalin Turner at UFC 290

Dan Hooker was looking to put together a winning run at UFC 290 after struggling to find form in his last five bouts. He lost three and won two. The 33-year-old even tried a hand at featherweight but was unsuccessful. With this win, Hooker is finally on a winning streak since his loss to Dustin Poirier in 2020.

Fans on Twitter were thoroughly impressed with the showing from both fighters. They did not hold back on their reactions, sharing their excitement for the fight and congratulating Hooker.
