Most fans might remember how the UFC 280 ended. The noted former UFC lightweight champ, Charles Oliveira suffered a crushing defeat against Islam Makhachev that crowned the latter as the UFC lightweight champ. But Oliveira was confident that he could do better and requested the UFC for a rematch. Well, the UFC was also considerate enough to grant his wish and fixed the rematch for UFC 294. But recent reports reveal that Oliveira won’t be taking the UFC 294 Octagon for his rematch against Makhachev on 21 October.

A massive hype was building throughout the UFC universe regarding the coveted UFC 294 main event. In such a situation, it’s quite apparent that several fans would be thoroughly disheartened by this news. But, the UFC has already arranged a replacement fighter for ‘Do Bronxs’, who will take on Makhachev at UFC 294. A large chunk of fans might already have their interests restored in the fight. But the ones ignorant about the issue also might get excited once again after knowing that it will be the current UFC Featherweight champ, Alexander Volkanovski, who will replace Oliveira at UFC 294.

Why did Charles Oliveira pull out of UFC 294?

UFC fans already have an idea about the unpredictability of the sport. Here, even the most disregarded underdogs have got the better of their heavy favorite opponents multiple times. Fighters pulling out of fights abruptly due to newly acquired injuries is another aspect of the unpredictability of the sport. Well, sources say that Oliveira also went through a similar untoward incident that forced his withdrawal from the UFC 294 main event.

Most fans might know that the UFC CEO, Dana White, addresses a lot of UFC issues in his press conferences. White took to the post-Dana White’s Contender Series press conference on 10 October to reveal the reason for Oliveira’s withdrawal from the UFC 294 main event. He revealed that Oliveira picked up a severe bruise that cut his “eyebrow wide open”, amidst his training sessions that will leave him unable to take the Octagon at UFC 294.

The UFC community was severely disheartened by this announcement. But they had their interests restored in the fight when White also revealed that the current UFC Featherweight champ, Alexander Volkanovski, had “jumped in and accepted the fight”. Well, several fans might realize that ‘Volk’ is also restless for a vengeance after his UFC 284 loss against the Dagestani, Makhachev.

Another major UFC 294 bout is also in jeopardy

Although the UFC authorities tried to present the fans with two superb fights as the co-main and main event of UFC 294, the stars probably aren’t in proper alignment currently. ‘The Great’ accepted to be Oliveira’s replacement saving the main event. But, reports say even the co-main event of the night is currently in jeopardy.

Most fans know that it would have involved the coveted Khamzat Chimaev taking on the noted UFC middleweight, Paulo Costa. But the latter had an elbow surgery a few weeks back. ‘The Eraser’ still looked confident about showing up at his UFC 294 co-min event bout against ‘Borz’. But White’s post-DWCS press conference on Tuesday also revealed that Costa may not be competing at UFC 294.
