UFC light-heavyweight Glover Teixeira has been on a roll recently. The 41-year-old Brazilian veteran is on a 5-fight win streak. He has finished 4 of his opponents in those 5 fights. But, he will have to wait for his opportunity to challenge for the title as champion Jan Blachowicz will defend his strap against middleweight champion Israel Adesanya at UFC 259, in March.

The Last Stylebender‘ is the favorite for the fight. But Teixeira wants Blachowicz to come out triumphant, as he believes it will be better for the light-heavyweight division.

In an interview with MMAFighting.com, Teixeira said, “If Adesanya wins, what happens then? Will Adesanya defend at 185 or 205? I don’t know. If that means sitting down and waiting until June, August, I don’t know, maybe I would wait, I don’t mind.”

“But, honestly, we don’t know anything. Blachowicz winning would be better for me and everyone else. But if Adesanya wins, what is he going to do? He’s probably going back to 185.”

Teixeira’s concern is quite valid considering Adesanya is still the middleweight champion and has plenty of contenders coming through the ranks in the 185 lbs division. So, he will have to be active as a middleweight to continue as the champion in his natural weight class. That might put the light-heavyweight division on hold for a considerable amount of time.

Teixeira has racked up back-to-back finishes over recent title challengers in Thiago Santos and Anthony Smith. Given his age, he is on a final run in the company and he has undoubtedly established himself as a true No.1 contender in the 205 lbs division of the UFC.

Israel Adesanya has the opportunity to create history

‘The Last Stylebender’ has the opportunity to register himself among the chosen list of fighters to be simultaneous two-division champions in the UFC. He has pretty much solidified himself as the best middleweight on the planet. Now, if he can beat Blachowicz at 205 lbs, he will create unprecedented history.

Adesanya is already one of the biggest superstars in the history of the UFC. He will reach newer heights with a successful outing at UFC 259.
