Mayra Bueno Silva was born in Uberlandia in 1991 and is Brazilian by ethnicity. She has been training in MMA since 2015 at gyms in Campinas and Sao Paulo and made her way to the regional MMA scene in 2016. Her talent was undeniable as she won the ‘Batalha MMA’ bantamweight title soon after.

Silva’s impressive rise led to her securing an invite to be a part of Dana White’s Contender Series Brazil 1. She faced Mayana Souza dos Santos and pulled off a rare ninja choke in the very first round of the fight, punching her ticket to the UFC!

The Brazilian then made her UFC debut in 2018 against Gillian Robertson where she once again showcased her submission skills by finishing her opponent in the first round. However, her next fight against Maryna Moroz saw her face her first loss as she lost the 2020 bout via unanimous decision.

Nonetheless, the Brazilian rebounded by submitting Mara Romero Borella in her next fight. She has recently been on a winning streak that has seen her claim victories over Wu Yanan, Stephanie Egger, and Lina Lansberg.

Raquel Pennington has dismissed Mayra Bueno Silva’s pre-fight comments, suggesting the Brazilian may be overestimating her position in the UFC. Silva, eyeing a potential bout with Julianna Peña, downplayed her fight against Pennington recently, implying it might not be exciting “on paper.”

Pennington, a UFC veteran in the bantamweight division with 11 years of experience, criticized Silva’s confidence at the UFC 297 media day. She stated, “So for her to think that it’s supposed to be her and Julianna — I love the world she’s living in, in her own mind, but she’s a little confused.”

‘Rocky’ also acknowledged the entertainment aspect fans may crave in a Silva vs. Peña matchup but emphasized her focus on the fight’s essence. She revealed, “Sure, maybe the fans want to see her fight Julianna because they both yap a lot. They talk, and so everybody wants to see that. They love the entertainment portion.”
