The ill-fated ending to Petr ‘No Mercy’ Yan’s bantamweight title defense against Aljamain Sterling in 2021 has drawn attention to 135 lbs division. The duo first clashed against one another at UFC 259, which saw the Funkmaster walk away with the title, but not in a way he intended to. Due to miscommunication between Yan and his corner, the Russian fighter delivered an illegal knee in the fourth round that caused him to drop the title via disqualification. Ever since he has been trying to correct that mistake, and finally, the interim champ is getting that opportunity this weekend.

The rematch is going to take place on April 9th at UFC 273, at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, and will serve as the co-main event. Sterling hasn’t fought inside the octagon since his DQ win over Yan last year.
