What was Jorge Masvidal implying with the phrase ‘three-piece and a soda’ to Leon Edwards?

Jorge Masvidal had just started his stellar year with a KO win moments before the incident. The former title challenger was giving an interview following his win over Darren Till earlier that night.

During his backstage interview with Laura Sanko, Masvidal found himself unexpectedly interrupted by ‘Rocky’. Responding with controlled intensity, ‘Gamebred’ approached Edwards with his hands restrained behind his back, eventually unleashing a rapid succession of punches on the British fighter. The impactful strikes resulted in a visible cut on Edwards’ face.

After the incident, Masvidal released a statement in ͏which he explained that he was simply enjoying the moment when Edwards intervened ͏and disrupted the atmosphere. He ͏further elaborated that as he attempted to confront him, Edwards raised his hands, signaling a desire for a physical altercation.

“…he put his hands up like this in… and he walks towards me. Well, where I’m from if you do that, you’re going to punch me in the face and that’s not going to happen, Leon…You’re not going to get a hit off on me. So I had to give him the three-piece with the soda and then just glide out of there, you know?” said Masvidal in an interview with Brett Okamoto.

Leon Edwards’s statement after the backstage brawl

Leon Edwards had a unique perspective on things. Despite not being present at the post-fight press conference on his fight, the 27-year-old Brit opted to share his thoughts through a statement posted on ͏Instagram.

Edwards took to Instagram to add a statement, “And Jorge, fair play sneaking your shots in when you could, But now you’re f—ed. If security wasn’t there you wouldn’t have made it back to the US, I’ll see you soon.”. The two have been feuding ever since, but a fight never materialized.

A bout was finalized for UFC 269 in December 2021 but fell through due to an injury to the Cuban-American. Presently, Edwards is champion while Masvidal is retired and a fight between the pair looks practically impossible. But if they had fought, who would have won?
