In one of the quickest routes to the UFC title fight, Steve Erceg will face defending champion Alexandre Pantoja in the UFC 301 headliner. But most UFC fans aren’t acquainted with the Australian fighter, who’s relatively new in Dana White‘s promotion. Hence, today we’ll get to know Erceg better, focusing primarily on his walkaround weight since the weigh-in event for the next UFC pay-per-view is on the horizon.

Steve Erceg will travel to Brazil in enemy territory to fight Alexandre Pantoja. And even though the fight is set, there is a chance that the matchup could get scrapped if the weight limit is not kept in check. On that note, let us take a look at the normal weight at which ‘Astroboy’ walks around while finding out if he’s ever missed weight in his career so far.

Steve Erceg has fought as both a flyweight and a bantamweight fighter in his MMA career so far. As a flyweight, he’s always been able to stay in the 125-126 pounds mark. Meanwhile, when Erceg fought as a bantamweight fighter, he also hit the required mark and never exceeded the weight limit. However, this time, the Aussie fighter will have to be a bit more careful because he weighed in at 126 lbs in his last fight against Matt Schnell, which was acceptable for a non-title fight, but not for a championship fight.

After uncovering the weight classes he’s competed in, we can safely assume that Steve Erceg walks around at 140 lbs. On the other hand, he has had only two fights canceled in his UFC career so far. The first one was against Clayton Carpenter, who he was scheduled to fight on UFC Fight Night: Dern vs Hill back in May 2023. But that fight wasn’t canceled due to a weight miss. Instead, that happened because ‘Astroboy’ was having a hard time getting a visa to travel to the United States.

Then again, there was the fight against Matt Schnell, which did take place earlier this year, but the first attempt at booking the fight fell off due to ‘Danger’ pulling out of the fight owing to an undisclosed reason. Now, that we’ve learned about his walkaround weight, let us take a look at his journey to getting a title fight in relatively less time than most fighters in UFC history.

Steve Erceg’s path to the UFC involved him getting inspired by one of the UFC’s heavyweight legends, Frank Mir. The 18-11 veteran’s win over Brock Lesnar at UFC 81 developed an interest in the Australian fighter to carve a path in MMA for himself. When Erceg made his professional debut, he lost one and won one in his first two fights.

Regardless, that would not be an issue for the 27-year-old since he then went on to register 11 consecutive wins, which also included all of his UFC fights so far. Steve Erceg has not beaten a UFC champion in any of the three fights he’s had in Dana White’s promotion. But his 11-fight winning streak and two ‘ Performance of the Night’ honors made a compelling case for him to get the title shot.

Even though he has a great record under his belt, there will be a lot of pressure on him for UFC 301. It will be his first title fight in the world’s biggest MMA promotion, and there is no doubt that this is indeed a chance of a lifetime. Will Erceg edge past Alexandre Pantoja this weekend? Let us know in the comments down below.
