How many languages does Mackenzie Dern speak?

Born and brought up in the USA, Mackenzie Dern became the #6th in the UFC women’s strawweight division after struggling in her initial days. Despite being an all-American, Dern has other roots as well. Her father was a Brazilian immigrant who came to the United States for a better lifestyle. Well, as of today the fighter holds two nationalities – American and Brazilian.

In her initial days in the UFC, the fighter had an American accent fluent in the diverse state lingo. However, this appears to have changed now as the 14-5 fighter seems to have adopted some aspect of the Brazilian lingo in her accent. Numerous videos showcase this change in her accent. Fans familiar with her American accent were understandably surprised when, during her UFC 224 post-fight Octagon interview, she spoke in Portuguese with the help of a translator.

As fans pointed out her flaws, the fighter was compelled to address them during a conversation with the media. She said, “Yeah, it’s so flattering, you know? (Laughs) You know, I haven’t seen this video and I won’t watch it. I think it’s just funny how they’re talking about it and I think after my UFC fights they’ll pay more attention to my fighting. But, they’re paying so much attention to this – it’s a compliment. I think people are starting to understand this is me, it’s who I am. I think it will pass in a while.”

Mackenzie Dern’s fascination with MMA began at the tender age of three when she started training under the guidance of her father and stepmother. While competing in BJJ, Dern won several honors at the national and international levels. Her training never stopped while traveling to and fro between Brazil and the United States. Interestingly, Dern’s stepmother is also a back belt who taught her daughter the art of MMA from a very early age. While other girls were playing with their braids, Dern was knocking down opponents twice her size.

Mackenzie Dern has the support of her brothers and sisters as well. The UFC fighter has two younger half-brothers and a brother and sister in her own family. However, it is unknown as of now whether or not her half-siblings follow the same path as her but they’re surely going to get noticed, given that Dern is quite popular in the MMA fandom.
