There are many issues that people have with Mixed Martial Arts and poor judging is one of them. Many people have talked about how poor judging has cost a lot of fighters their careers. While many suggestions are raised to improve the judging criteria, anything substantial is yet to be implemented. Recently on his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, Joe Rogan addressed this issue.

On the podcast, Rogan said, “I would like fight judges to have the same setup that I have when I am doing commentary, though. When DC & Jon Anik & I are doing commentary, we have all these monitors. So sometimes when s**ts going down, I can’t see it right. I prefer to look right through the cage, but sometimes I have to look at the screen and I don’t think they have that option, unfortunately…”
The UFC color commentator further added, “It’s not good. It’s not good enough. It’s not good enough because then you miss certain things, you miss certain impacts. I would like for them to be able to call replays too. Like if they had a like a specific person in the truck that was just for the referees, just for the judges rather so they could say, hey can you show me that again? So you could see whether a punch impacted or whether it caught an elbow.”

While fans and fighters often point to poor judging in MMA bouts, it is important to make changes to better the scenario of judging in MMA and Rogan has shared his views on how he believes this can be achieved.
Joe Rogan has often cited the impact of poor judgments in MMA
When MMA fights are judged poorly and wrong decisions are given, MMA fighters are the ones who are often affected the most.
MMA fighters receive two forms of payment. One is the show money, and the second is a win bonus. There are also other bonuses such as performance of the night, knockout of the night, etc. Show money means the money that is guaranteed for a fighter, who shows up on fight night by making weight and completing certain formalities. Win bonus is when the fighter is paid once they win the fight.

Now, often because of bad judging and poor decisions, MMA fighters lose out on the win bonus they can make. This money that they lose is crucial because a fighter has many things to pay for, such as his/her family, training, nutrition, etc.

Apart from the financial aspect, poor judging also ruins the morale and momentum of a fighter. Often, a fighter can be close to a title shot or a big fight. They can be on their path to glory, but because of a poor decision, they are pushed down the order. This breaks their momentum, which can affect their career massively.
