Musk has a good relationship with the podcast host Joe Rogan. The UFC color commentator has hosted the Tesla head twice on his show and discussed various subjects, including freedom of speech at length.
During one of these episodes, Rogan asked Musk about Bill Gates’s comments on his trucking project. “Explain to me what Bill Gates was talking about when he was saying he can’t do trucks?” quizzed Rogan.
Musk replied, “Yeah, I don’t know what he was talking about.”
“Probably someone told him that and you know he’s just not that close to the physics of it. So I don’t think he’s ill-intentioned here. He just doesn’t know what he’s talking about,” he added.

Rogan found it odd that such a big name in the tech industry spoke against something he didn’t have a complete idea about. He expressed his reaction, “But why say it then? You think about a guy who’s so involved in technology you would think you would only talk about things you understand.”
The SpaceX founder responded and added that Gates once held a short position against Tesla.
“I don’t know it’s weird I also heard that at one point he had a big short position against Tesla which was kind of… I don’t know if that’s true or not but that seems weird, I don’t know. People I know who know the situation well said are you sure? They said yeah he has a big short position against Tesla which obviously didn’t work out too well.”

Rogan smirked at the sly dig aimed toward Gates’ disapproval of Musk’s companies before moving on.
