UFC fighter Dustin Poirier has been in the news lately because of Colby Covington calling him out at UFC 272. After a win via unanimous decision, Covington called out Poirier for a fight. While the Louisiana-based fighter has previously said that the fight won’t happen, Poirier sure does have an interesting fight camp.
In an older episode of ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’, the fighter was heard talking about his strength and conditioning.

Poirier said, “Beginning of every training camp, my strength, and conditioning coach Phil Daru, kind of gets a base. Like we build off the base and switch it up in phases throughout the training camp. So the base at the beginning of the camp is a lot of you know, legs and a lot of lifting.”
It’s all about setting a base🧱

Poirier also said that it helps him not only get stronger but also more efficient in his movements. Post this, a video of the fighter with Daru showed him engaging in certain movements. Poirier also spoke about how he has never experienced any back issues and this impressed Rogan. Thus, it looks like his strength and conditioning training is paying off.
‘The Diamond’ was coming off three wins before getting stopped by lightweight champion Charles Oliveira. At UFC 269, Oliveira submitted Poirier and defended his belt for the first time. He is now set to face Justin Gaethje for yet another title defense.

Covington calls out Poirier during interview with Joe Rogan
While Covington’s beef with Jorge Masvidal is huge, he also has unfinished business with Poirier. As reported by ‘MMA Fighting‘, the feud between ‘Chaos’ and Poirier started when they were training at the ‘American Top Team’ in Florida.

Covington even took digs at Poirier for his loss against Oliveira and said that he has a ‘quitter mentality’. In response to this, Poirier said that he would never fight Colby Covington in the UFC. Post this, Covington again called out Poirier after a victory against Masvidal, during the in-ring interview conducted by Joe Rogan.
