The Will Smith-Chris Rock slap incident at the Oscars took everybody by surprise. UFC commentator Joe Rogan had also discussed it on his ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’. However, in episode #1856 with guest, Nate Bargatze, he discussed Rock’s comedy post the slap-saga.
Both the personalities spoke about Rock’s tendency to get lost in the moment while doing comedy. That’s when Rogan said, “He’s really funny again right now.”

“I saw him at the store before the whole Will Smith thing and he was working out his material. He was f**king good, man. He was really good, like classic Chris Rock sh*t. Because, you know, went through a hard divorce, lost a sh*tload of money and it’s a lot of pain and so and then, came out of it.”
“And then on the other side of it, it’s like, he’s really good right now.
Rogan and Bargatze further discussed how some comedians have big hits but later are unable to give similar content. Bargatze, who is also a comedian, was of the opinion that being an ‘underdog’ is better as the audience would doubt the abilities of the jokester.

He connected it to Chris Rock and his resurgence after the Smith incident, saying people expect something huge from him. If he failed to deliver it, people might not be interested in his specials anymore.
Rogan added, “He was at his best… He was killing it.”
Speaking about his stardom, Rogan said, “… when you’re Chris Rock, how do you not get insulated? Everywhere you go, everybody says ‘oh, that’s Chris Rock.”

The famous Spotify podcaster spoke about the slap a number of times on his podcast with several guests. He thus gathered opinions and explored the incident from several angles.

In addition to this, the Johnny Depp-Amber Heart trial was also heavily discussed on the JRE podcast. Hence, Rogan also made a comparison between Depp and Smith by pointing out an aspect that was similar between the two.

As per Rogan, both the actors had a ‘mental fragility’ which was also reflected in their movie roles. He was also of the opinion that their choice of spouses could have damaged it additionally.
