Ramon Taveras’ early life & background

Taveras’ story begins in Jacksonville, where he grew up facing plenty of challenges. He dropped out of high school, but he was already finding direction through combat sports. According to UFC.com, he started training at 15 “to stay out of trouble.” What began as a way to keep busy quickly turned into a passion and eventually, a career path.

“I started to get very good at it and realized I can make a career out of it and take care of my family,” he explained. “Once I started to see how good I was at it, I decided to take it more serious.”

In his amateur career, he won belts in both MMA and boxing. One highlight was winning the USA Boxing PAL tournament, which showed his versatility as a striker. He also captured and defended the Combat Night amateur MMA belt before going pro.

That professional career officially began in November 2019. Most of his early fights took place under the Combat Night MMA banner, where he became bantamweight champion. Winning that title opened doors, eventually leading him to Dana White‘s Contender Series, where his persistence earned him a UFC contract.

With his next fight scheduled for UFC Fight Night: Ulberg vs. Reyes in Perth, Taveras now steps onto the international stage.
