Many fans were bidding on Aljamain Sterling to win at UFC 292. However, he could not avoid getting knocked out by Sean O’Malley, who finished the fight in the second round. Following this, a fan shared a tweet expressing his disappointment with ‘Funk Master’s performance and game plan. And it did not go unnoticed as Sterling consoled the fan.
The fan in question, going by the username ‘John’, mentioned that he was teary-eyed after witnessing Sterling’s loss at UFC 292. Moreover, he was mad at the former champion for his ill-advised game plan. Let us take a look at what ‘Funk Master’ had to say about that.

Aljamain Sterling explained what went wrong against Sean O’Malley
The former bantamweight champion assured the heartbroken fan that his game plan for ‘Suga’ was nothing different from the one he used in his previous fight. He was always aiming to take Sean O’Malley down by using his excellent ground-game skills. Aljamain Sterling said, “The game plan was to take him down, just like my game plan for everyone.”

Moreover, Sterling also mentioned that Sean O’Malley was constantly throwing moves in an attempt to deceive him. This made it more difficult for the 23-4 fighter to get a hold of his opponent. “Not sure if you watched the jukes moves the man was hitting haha,” said Aljamain Sterling. However, he is not done with O’Malley and is determined to adopt a different tactic next time.
‘Funk Master’ has promised to use a strategy next time
Aljamain Sterling explained to the fan that it is tough to get hold of an opponent if the person doesn’t stand face-to-face. As per the former champion, this was pretty much what Sean O’Malley did during the fight. He said, “Tough to grab someone properly who doesn’t stand right in front of you. ”

Furthermore, keeping his UFC 292 outcome in mind, Alajarin Sterling has decided to bring a change in his supposed “game plan.” The next time ‘Funk Master’ meets ‘Suga’ inside the Octagon, he will directly aim to kick the legs until O’Malley moves in his direction. “Next time I just kick his legs til he’s first to push forward. All good,” said Aljamain Sterling.

Aljamain Sterling believes that he has earned the right to call for a rematch against Sean O’Malley. It is due to his achievement of being a champion for over two years. However, there has been no official word as to when and if the rematch will happen anytime soon. We will have to wait and see what direction the UFC takes and if Sterling can apply his new tactic when the rematch is finally announced by Dana White.
