Jordan Leavitt will face Chase Hooper in a lightweight bout on November 18. Their lightweight bout will be on the main card for UFC Fight Night: Allen vs. Craig at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Nicknamed ‘The Monkey King’ owing to his strength, acrobatic abilities, and love for bananas, he also has one of the most entertaining knockouts in UFC history.

His upcoming opponent is also a grappler like him, and their bout will bring the winner closer to being ranked in the UFC lightweight division. And ahead of their all-important bout, let us look at some defeats the BJJ purple belt has faced so far.

Leavitt started his martial arts career as a wrestler in school. But he quit the wrestling team in the first year. However, his interest in martial arts in general and mixed martial arts in particular sparked when he saw The Ultimate Fighter, produced by the UFC, on TV.

This led him to rejoin the wrestling team and embark on his journey to becoming a mixed martial artist. He turned pro at the age of 22 in 2017 and has 13 fights under his belt, of which he has won 11 and lost two. Both of his losses have come in the UFC.

Leavitt was signed to the promotion after defeating Luke Flores on Dana White’s Contender Series. He had one of the most impressive KOs on his UFC debut against Matt Wiman. The Syndicate MMA member knocked Wiman out with a body slam a la Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson.

However, his second UFC fight gave him the first loss on his record. He lost to Claudio Puelle via a unanimous decision after three rounds at UFC Fight Night: Rozenstruik vs. Sakai in 2021. His second loss came at the hands of hyped lightweight prospect Paddy Pimblett via a rear naked choke hold at UFC Blaydes vs. Aspinall last year. But he is not the only Syndicate MMA member who will be competing on the card, as Brendan Allen will headline it, who will face Paul Craig in a middleweight bout.

Brendan Allen to face Paul Craig on November 18

#10-ranked Allen will face #13-ranked Craig in a bout that may see the winner move up to single-digit rankings and see them get one step closer to a middleweight title shot. Both Allen and Craig are also primarily grapplers who have won the majority of their fights via submission.

Given this, most think their fight may come down to who can impose their size and strength on their opponent. Whoever has an edge in striking will also be important, given their grappling proficiencies. What are your predictions for UFC Fight Night: Allen vs. Craig? One take at a time

Hi, I am Kanishk and I am a UFC Writer at EssentiallySports. I love telling the stories of these magnificent fighters and this wildly unpredictable sport that is so frustrating and yet so joyous at the same time. I never really used to watch MMA, thinking it too crude or brutal a sport to deserve respect.
