Khamzat Chimaev is yet to have a fight booked since his outing at UFC 279 in September 2022. Despite talks of fights against middleweight stars, including Paulo Costa and Robert Whittaker, Chimaev remains unbooked. While UFC president Dana White said a few months ago that Chimaev’s next fight would be at middleweight, that does not look like the case anymore.
As ‘The Wolf’ grows frustrated with inactivity, a former UFC champion has pitched an idea for a fight. Former middleweight champion and Hall of Fame member Michael Bisping recently discussed Chimaev’s prospects. While ‘Borz’ grows restless and frustrated each day, Bisping believes he is not in an altogether bad position.

‘The Count’ assessed Chimaev’s position in a recent video uploaded to his channel. He looked at possible fights for the Swede and analyzed the implications that would have for the future. One of his assessments ended in Chimaev facing middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.

Michael Bisping proposes Khamzat Chimaev vs. Israel Adesanya
Bisping counted the potential fights that Khamzat Chimaev could have- Paulo Costa and Kamaru Usman were at the top of his list. He also mentioned how the Robert Whittaker fight is no longer an option, as he is fighting Dricus Du Plessis soon.
However, Chimaev still has a reason for hope. Bisping said, “I mean Khamzat [Chimaev] when you look at him, he’s one of those guys in a rare position because he’s had most of his career at 170. He can fight for the belt relatively soon at 170.”
He continued, “If he can make 170, that’s the big question, but he can. He’s done it before. One win and he could fight for the belt. 185? One good win and he could fight for the belt. I mean, who doesn’t want to see Israel Adesanya vs. Khamzat Chimaev?”
He further added, “Granted Dricus Du Plessis/Robert Whittaker, whoever wins fights Israel Adesanya. But I’m telling you, he can fight at 185 for the belt with one big win. He can probably fight at 205 as well.”

The Adesanya fight is one that interested Chimaev as well. The Chechen recently had some strong words for ‘Stylebender’ in a recent statement.

However, former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman seems to be the frontrunner for Chimaev’s next fight. A win over the former champion would definitely line Chimaev up for a shot at the 170 lbs title.
