Growing up in Quebec, Aiemann Zahabi was always surrounded by martial arts. But, despite spending his early years watching others train under his older brother, renowned MMA coach Firas Zahabi, he didn’t seriously consider entering the Octagon himself until his mid-teen years. Zahabi, at 37, has established himself as a rising power in the bantamweight division. With a 12-2 professional record, including a current five-fight winning streak, the Canadian fighter prepares for the biggest fight of his career as he faces former featherweight champion José Aldo at UFC 315 in Montreal.

It’s an important occasion for Zahabi, especially considering he’s competing in his hometown for the first time. Fans who have watched his quiet rise through the UFC ranks are familiar with his calculating style and calm presence, but outside the cage, there’s just as much interest in the man behind the gloves. Many wonder about his support system, which has helped him stay grounded during tough fights and extended training camps. Who is in his corner? Is there a partner behind his success? Most typically, who is Aiemann Zahabi’s brother, the one who has been guiding him since day one? Without further ado, let’s find out!

Are Aiemann and Firas Zahabi brothers?

Yes, Aiemann Zahabi is the younger brother of the well-known MMA coach Firas Zahabi. While Aiemann has earned his spotlight with a five-fight winning streak and a UFC bantamweight division ranking, his success is deeply rooted in a close—and often intense—relationship with Firas, who has served as both a coach and mentor.

Even though Aiemann is seven years and ten months younger than his brother, they’ve been inseparable for as long as he can remember. A true testament to their love for one another. “We’re so close that when we’re together outside of the gym, we really don’t need to talk,” Aiemann stated.

The 135fer added, “He’s been watching over me since I was a kid. He would carry me on his shoulders, drive me around once he got his license. He’d make sure I got to school. It’s been a blessing to have him there for me, and I’ve been there for him as well, taking care of his kids when he travels. It’s very give-and-take.”

In a recent interview with DAZN, the 37-year-old opened up about the chemistry between the two. “It’s up and down because in Arabic culture, the older brother has a lot of authority over the younger brother,” he explained. “We believe in hierarchy. Some days are harder than others, but we’ve made it work.” Despite challenges, their bond remains unbreakable. “My brother and wife are my biggest supporters,” Aiemann stated. “Nobody gives me more than Firas and my wife, for sure.”

Firas Zahabi’s coaching career and BJJ background

Firas Zahabi is widely regarded as one of the most brilliant minds in MMA coaching. He owns the Tristar Gym in Montreal, which is well-known as the longtime home of UFC legend Georges St. Pierre. In fact, he also serves as the head coach in the organization. However, it is worth noting that Firas’ path to MMA royalty was anything but ordinary. Firas, who was born in Quebec to Lebanese immigrant parents, began training in martial arts at the age of 18, motivated by Royce Gracie‘s performance at UFC 1 and 2.

Firas, a philosophy graduate from Concordia University, quickly involved himself in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), receiving his black belt under John Danaher, another great figure in the grappling world. By 2008, Firas had taken over Tristar Gym and established a reputation for technical proficiency, strategic game planning, and a coaching style prioritizing smart training over brutal sparring. GSP would subsequently recapture his welterweight title, register a record 9-title defenses, and win the middleweight championship under his tutelage.

Firas has also worked with elite fighters such as Rory MacDonald and currently leads the next generation, including his brother, Aiemann. With UFC 315 just days away, the Zahabi brothers are gearing up for what might be a career-defining moment. Aiemann (12-2) will face José Aldo (32-9) in his most important fight yet, and he’ll do so with one of MMA’s most respected instructors and his brother at his side. What do you think? Will he be able to pull off the impossible and win the fight? Let us know in the comments.
