When we talk about Omaha and combat sports, we talk about Terence Crawford, who outboxed Canelo Alvarez last month in an upset for the ages. And when we look at MMA, we find quite a few popular fighters in the UFC from the same city, like Drew Dober, who may not have the recognition like ‘Bud’ has, but is known for putting on exciting, hard-hitting performances inside the Octagon.

Drew Dober’s lightweight run in Dana White‘s promotion hasn’t been the best one. Despite having a wealth of experience, fighting since 2008, Dober has never come close to a title. At 36 years old, he may not have much left in the tank, but Dober is still going strong and will make his return at UFC Vancouver against Kyle Prepolec. But while we know quite a bit about the 155-pound veteran’s professional life, the same cannot be said about his personal life. So, before the fight this weekend, let’s get to know all the lesser-known details about Dober, especially his relationships, because one of his partners was the sister of one of his rivals.

Drew Dober’s marriage to rival Nick Hein’s sister
In 2014, Drew Dober found his way onto the UFC Berlin card, where he fought Nick Hein, a German national. The 36-year-old lost the fight but contested the decision. Despite that, Dober later joined his rival, to whom he had just lost, and met his family in Berlin as they partied together. It was then that he met Hein’s sister, Gloria, and later they got romantically involved and ended up getting married.
“I fought in Germany. I fought a man named Nick Hein. Unfortunately, I lost but I disagreed with the decision. But whatever,” Drew Dober was seen saying in a resurfaced video clip. “We went to post-fight party of Nick Hein, ’cause we were in Germany why not celebrate with the Germans, right? Met his family, was introduced to his sister and I married his sister. Did you guys know that? I married my opponent’s sister.”

Meet Hollis Casey – wife, career & support system
After his relationship with Nick Hein’s sister fell apart, Drew Dober married Denver native Hollis Casey. He proposed to his now-wife back in November 2020, during the pandemic-ridden year, and the couple soon tied the knot. Dober and Casey celebrated their anniversary on August 14, and the couple has been together for over half a decade now. But let’s see the story behind their first meeting.
In an interview with Outside the Cage, Drew Dober’s wife revealed that she met the UFC veteran online. He was already competing under the UFC banner back when he decided to take the chance and interact with Casey by sliding into her DMs. Dober wasn’t in luck since she ghosted him the first time around.
His wife thought that he was so full of himself. But as the conversation proceeded, she learned about his real self, and their relationship flourished, and she became an essential component of the UFC veteran’s support system. “It was instant chemistry,” Casey confirmed in the interview.

Hollis Casey was also the Director of Sales at Aspen Baking Co., Denver, from 2014 to 2020. She also took on the role of health insurance associate at HCR ManorCare and is a certified nursing assistant.
Casey even helped in the fundraising campaign for the Alumni Association at the University of Northern Colorado, as well. Without a doubt, her professional records are nothing short of impressive. But do the Dobers have any children? Yes, they do.

Dober’s daughter Sonia & hidden name inspiration
The lightweight veteran and his wife welcomed their daughter back in 2023. There was a special moment at UFC Vegas 80 that earned Drew Dober’s daughter unprecedented fame. He fought and defeated Ricky Glenn at UFC Vegas 80 and showcased a performance that greatly impressed the fighting community.
In just 2 minutes and 36 seconds, Dober knocked Glenn out and secured a KO victory within the very first round. But it was during the Octagon interview that the audience was in awe. Talking to Daniel Cormier, the 36-year-old gave a shout-out to his baby girl.
Dober confessed, “It’s such a beautiful honor to be able to do this in front of my daughter, and I know she’s not gonna care when she’s old enough, I would be old and retired, and then I’m gonna bore her. Oh, my God!” As the camera focused on Casey and their daughter, he said, “What a beautiful little baby! Looks just like me, though. It’s such a beautiful honor, and I just cherish every single moment I’m in here.” But did you know what inspired Dober to name his daughter Sonia?

As Dober was getting checked before stepping onto the Octagon at UFC Vegas 80, Megan Olivi revealed something shocking about Dober’s daughter. The lightweight veteran is an avid fan of the video game ‘Mortal Kombat’. And if you know about the fighting game, you must know about the character, Sonia. Yes, that’s the inspiration for Dober’s daughter’s name. Olivi said, “This is just the best. I died when he told us this. He named his daughter Sonia. That’s a Mortal Kombat character. But he did not tell his wife that was the reference of the name and where it came from until after the birth certificate was signed.” Crazy story, right?
Well, nothing is crazier than putting it all on the line inside the Octagon. Drew Dober needs to make an impact as soon as he can because his career is in a very tricky spot. But despite what happens in his fighting career, he’s a lucky man with a happy family.
