Most UFC fans have witnessed the promotion’s tendency to put local fighters in their event cards. The recently concluded UFC Paris, also featured two French fighters in the main and co-main events of the night. It’s understandable that the UFC gains massive gate revenues from the local fight fans. They are often drawn to the local fighters competing at the biggest stage in MMA. One day, the noted UFC Middleweight champ, Israel Adesanya, was also introduced to the UFC community in a similar fashion.
‘Izzy’ made his debut at UFC 221, fighting in the undercard of the event featuring Mark Hunt and Tai Tuivasa as the local stars. But today, he is one of the biggest stars of the promotion himself. Hence, it’s quite understandable that the UFC will look to put fighters from his locality in the undercards of the events featuring him as the showstopper. Well, the upcoming UFC 293 to be hosted in the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney won’t be an exception to this.

The UFC has selected a friend of Israel Adesanya to feature at UFC 293
Although ‘Izzy’ was a debutant when he featured at the undercard of UFC 221, the case won’t be the same as UFC 293. Reports also say that the fighter selected for the UFC 293 undercard is one of ‘Izzy’s friends in the promotion apart from the noted UFC Featherweight king, Alexander Volkanovski.
Dana White and Co. have selected the UFC Welterweight, Mike Mathetha, to be featured in the undercard of UFC 293. There are plenty of reports about him being a close friend of ‘Izzy’ from his initial days of training in ‘City Kickboxing’. Adesanya also celebrated the moment with shouts when ‘Blood Diamond’ gained his first official UFC contract. A video on ‘The Last Stylebender’s’ YouTube channel also showcases this moment.
Several fans might see this as a testimony of their friendship. But a large chunk of them also started to criticize the UFC. It all started after their announcement that ‘Blood Diamond’ would be fighting at the Sydney-based, UFC 293.
Why are several fans displeased with Mike Mathetha getting a fight at UFC 293?
Well, the answer to this can’t be given exactly since every fan might have their own reason. But the opinions of a lot of them became clear afterward. A large chunk of fans took to the comments section of the X update by the noted MMA coverage personality, Marcel Dorff, and expressed their thoughts.
