Brown’s last professional fight was in 2016. He faced Steven Siler and sadly lost his last bout as well. However, his experiences as a fighter enrich his role as a coach. He has been in the ring and understands the rules, the physical and mental aspects of the game.

His presence at the American Top Team surely contributed to churning out some of the best fighters the world has seen. However, there is another coach that majorly helped Nunes in her career.

Din Thomas: Amanda Nunes’ former coach

Like Mike Brown, Din Thomas too was an MMA fighter before becoming a coach at the American Top Team. As a professional fighter, he had a great record (26-9-0). Unfortunately, he never fought for the featherweight title in any of the promotions he was with.

His last fight was in 2013. He lost the bout against Georgi Karakhanyan via a unanimous decision. However, coaching did not come directly come after retirement. Even during his career as an MMA fighter, Thomas would coach at various gyms and Jiu-Jitsu schools. Thus, his abilities as a coach were already pretty sharp.

After his retirement, he started coaching full-time. He worked at various places as a coach and later, joined the American Top Team in 2015. Thomas is famous for coaching and helping UFC fighter Tyron Woodley to new heights. Amanda Nunes is another highly successful fighter he has worked with.

When Nunes started training under Thomas, she was a good fighter. But soon, she quickly rose to fame because she fought some of her best fights while training under him. After her loss against Cat Zingano, she gave some of the best fights and to this day, that loss remains her last one. Currently, she is on a 12-fight win streak and seems unstoppable.

Thomas left ATT in 2020. He wanted to open his own gym, and it seemed like the right time to do so. As an experienced fighter and coach, he has all the right credentials to own a gym.
