After Rousey’s tough loss against Amanda Nunes in 2016, TMZ interviewed her mother, AnnMaria De Mars. The interview took place just as De Mars was exiting the MGM after watching her daughter get knocked out in the first round.
The interviewer first asked AnnMaria how Rousey felt after the big upset. Rousey’s mother answered by saying that she was feeling “sad and disappointed.” TMZ then asked the big question of if she was considering retirement. AnnMaria said that making “snap decisions” isn’t a good idea and that she should take time to reflect and make a logical decision.

When asked if she wanted her daughter to retire, AnnMaria responded, “I would like to see her retire. I would have liked to see her retire a long time ago. Who wants to see their kid get hit? Cause she’s got a lot of talent in a lot of other things. Movies, writing, producing, she’s really, really smart. I told her that at the beginning when she started this.”

This comes after she previously publicly bashed her coach, Edmond Tarverdyan. She called Tarverdyan a “terrible coach” who used Rousey to “lure people in.” She also mentioned that he did not give attention to Rousey when she first joined the gym, although she had a long list of achievements.
