Marlon Vera is all set to face Sean O’Malley at UFC 299 for the bantamweight title. Their initial clash ended in a brutal defeat and an injury for O’Malley and seems like ‘Chito is looking forward to repeating what he did back at UFC 252. However, ahead of his fight, let’s have a look at Vera’s moniker ‘Chito.’ His nickname has a close connection to his childhood behind it. Let’s dive in to understand what ‘Chito’ means to Vera.

How did Marlon Vera earn the name ‘Chito’?

Marlon Vera’s moniker ‘Chito’ is very close to his heart. In his own words, “Really that’s just because my family called me like that since I was a little kid. So there’s not really like, a meaning behind it. It was hard for me to pronounce my name when I was a kid so this was sort of a cheat code because I couldn’t pronounce my name,” said Vera in an interview with News18.

“Aljo, he’s so f***ing hungry for attention. He never got attention in the UFC. He became a world champion, he defended it, and he got booed in front of f****** Jersey in front of f****** Cejudo. Who gets booed against Cejudo? Holy s***, people f****** hate you. You’re becoming a YouTuber because your fight career isn’t going well…how’d he hear? We have a private gym. Focus on your life, you’re a f****** loser,” said Vera on UFC 299 media day.
