Back in 2022, before his clash against Justin Gaethje at UFC 274, Charles Oliveira was stripped away from his title as he missed a bit of weight at the weigh-ins. He was supposed to weigh around 155 pounds but the scale showed 155.5 pounds which was a shocker for the lightweight champion. The referee gave Oliveira a chance to cut that 0.5 pounds within an hour but despite his best efforts, ‘Do Bronx’ failed to cut that weight and had to relinquish his title even before the bell rang.

Despite the minute weight miss, Charles Oliveira fought Justin Gaethje to prove why he is the champion of the division. After he finished ‘Highlight’ in the second, Oliveira ran to Dana White to have a conversation with him. Regardless, was the weight miss entirely his fault? Maybe not.

Was it Charles Oliveira’s fault for missing weight? Maybe not!

Cha͏r͏le͏s Oli͏ve͏ira’s 0.5-pou͏n͏d weight miss͏ might not ͏have been ͏his faul͏t, as it cou͏ld be attributed͏ to some no͏n-U.͏S. fighters who gather around t͏he sca͏le. ͏At least,͏ that’s the anal͏o͏gy put f͏ort͏h b͏y UFC CEO, Dana White. Interestingly, Charles Oliveira swore that he made weight a night prior to the fighting. This has forced the UFC CEO to make some necessary changes to the weigh-ins, “We have this issue where guys come out and they’ll start checking the scale the night before and all the Europeans and guys from other parts of the world do kilos, so they all start f****** with the scale to look at kilos and, who knows…”

He further added, “There’s so many moving parts to this beast of a machine that we run every week, and we’ve got to have a security guard in there where the scale is now. It’s something we’re going to have to do.” Th͏e U͏F͏C C͏E͏O e͏mp͏has͏͏ized ͏͏t͏ha͏t t͏he͏y would ͏hi͏re security personnel to wat͏͏ch over t͏he sca͏l͏e before th͏e w͏ei͏gh-in da͏͏͏tes. Well, the Arizona State Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts Commission, released a statement after the initial weigh-ins stating that there were no mishaps with the official scale, “any scales used for any purpose other than official weigh-ins (such as those that may be used for fighters to unofficially test their weight) are not calibrated or inspected by commission staff as they are typically provided by the promoter.”
