UFC light heavyweight contender Ovince Saint Preux recently found himself getting reprimanded by USADA. The 40-year-old got slapped with a suspension for failing a drug test after testing positive for banned substances. Moreover, he will be out of action for a period of six months.
Ovince Saint Preux has been fighting under the UFC banner for more than a decade. Since the time he’s been in Dana White’s promotion, the Haitian-American has fought the likes of Jon Jones, Volkan Oezdemir, and Mauricio Rua, just to name a few. Saint Preux is one of the oldest active fighters in the UFC currently. But recent news of his suspension will see him out of action for a considerable amount of time.

According to a statement released by the UFC, the 40-year-old veteran accepted a six-month-long suspension. This comes after he tested positive for a long-term metabolite of a banned substance of either testosterone or androstenedione, according to USADA. Moreover, the doping agency launched an investigation where it was revealed that Saint Preux was using a supplement that was tainted.

The 26-17 fighter handed over a container of a supplement that he was using for analysis. After the analysis, USADA officials found a banned substance in it. The substance in question is 1-Androstenedione.

Moreover, the substance was not even mentioned on the label of the container. Saint Preux also submitted his urine samples on two occasions for examination as well. As a result, he got slapped with a suspension for the second time in his UFC career. Let us take a look at his previous violation.
Details about the 26-17 fighter’s first suspension
Ovince Saint Preux’s first suspension came in 2019. Moreover, unlike his second suspension, the first one saw him using multiple prohibited and banned substances. Moreover, the 40-year-old was caught after USADA conducted an out-of-competition drug test. Saint Preux tested positive for GW1516 sulfone and GW1516 sulfoxide, which are metabolites of GW1516. Moreover, he also tested positive for ostarine and dihydroxy-LGD-4033, which was a metabolite of LGD-4033.

However, as per the investigation carried out by USADA, they found out that it was not Ovince Saint Preux’s fault. Just like the second time, his initial drug test failure was also a result of his using contaminated supplements. As a result, he got suspended for three months.

The suspension period of six months was only considered because this is Saint Preux’s second violation ever. Moreover, his ineligibility period began on June 17th this year. This means that he will be eligible to return to the Octagon in December 2023. We will have to wait and see how things unfold for the veteran.
