Tom Aspinall believes he is a champion

Jon Jones’s return is uncertain for now and with the heavyweight division already in tatters, Tom Aspinall’s name came up as a lifesaver for UFC. His performance at UFC 295 was such a dominant one that the fans are now stating that he might be the fastest heavyweight fighter to have ever graced the UFC roster.

In his most recent escapade, Aspinall was asked what was his opinion on his championship status on ‘The Mac Life’ on YouTube. Aspinall stated that till Jones returned to the octagon he would stay as a champion. ” I’ve got a belt; seems pretty real to me. I showed up when the real Champion didn’t. Sure, but I think I’m the official, I’m the active champion, okay? Jon Jones isn’t active right now, ” said Aspinall.

He further explained that despite the belt, he wouldn’t be called a champion till he defeated Jones. “I won’t be the real Champion until I beat Jon Jones, though, in my opinion, unless he vacates. Yeah, if he retires, then it’s mine, but, uh, yeah, I’m definitely a version of the champion right now, but I want to fight the actual champion.”

Tom Aspinall was not happy about the fact that despite not being active Jones has not been stripped away from his title till now. While having a conversation with Michael Bisping he said “Well, I’ve heard nothing from the UFC. I think Jon Jones should be stripped of the title, to be honest because everyone else does when they get injured like that. I don’t see why he’s still got it. I don’t understand that.”
