Weight cutting in MMA is a serious issue that, for the better or worse, has become a necessary evil for fighters.

Many fighters struggle to stand on the scale, many don’t even get to make it to the scale; Dehydrating the body just under two days before a professional mixed martial arts competition doesn’t sound right. However, to gain an advantage over the opponent and with the evolution of the process behind weight cutting and diet management, fighters go through drastic weight cuts.

Fighters often suggest weight cutting as the most gruesome part of the fight. Likewise, many stories of fighters having a negative effect on their body due to weight cuts come out.

Recently, former UFC welterweight Darren Till revealed a story about him losing his consciousness because of the big weight cuts he had done to make 170 lbs.

On ‘The Triple C & Schmo Show’, Till, who came with Khamzat Chimaev, said, “When I fought Masvidal, I was just like, I remember, I had like point two to go. And I woke up, I snuck out the room from my coach and I walked to the supermarket which was like 10 minutes and I like fell down five minutes on the way because I went blind.”

Thus, it shows how severe the effect of draining the water from your system can be.

Darren Till Says Underestimating Masvidal is the Biggest Mistake of His Life

Till lost the fight via second-round knockout at the UFC London main event against Jorge ‘Gamebred’ Masvidal. After this fight, Till decided not to cut weight anymore and moved to the middleweight division and found immediate success.

Can Darren Till become a UFC champion with Khamzat Chimaev on his side?

‘Gorilla’ was a highly proclaimed prospect because of his striking prowess before joining the UFC. When Till stepped inside the UFC Octagon in the welterweight division, he demolished the competition and, in no time, was standing against the UFC welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley.

Though he won his battle on the scale, it appeared his entire attention was on making the weight, which cost him the fight.

In the middleweight division, Till has the backing of the champion, Israel Adesanya. Hence, he needs two good wins on his resume to fight for the title at middleweight. Also, the matchup against ‘The Last Stylebender’ suits his style.

Thus, the young British fighter could get the middleweight strap around his waist with one good year in the promotion. Especially with Khamzat Chimaev on his side, he can pull off some surprise element against the Kiwi kickboxer.
