The Irishman has been recuperating from the injury ever since and was originally slated to face The Ultimate Fighter 31 rival coach Michael Chandler in a welterweight bout in December. The bout has been postponed to an as-of-yet unknown date. But with USADA parting ways with the UFC starting in January 2024, many feel it may be sooner rather than later.
It has been widely speculated that the Dubliner not entering the USADA testing pool is what forced the postponement, but that seems not to be a problem anymore. McGregor started his UFC career in the featherweight division. He went on to capture the title in that division in 2015. He would then move up and go on to pursue the lightweight championship, which he won from Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in 2016.
McGregor would move up again to face Donald Cerrone at welterweight in 2020, before his fateful third lightweight clash against Poirier in 2021. And, even if the date of his comeback remains uncertain, what we know for sure is that he would face Chandler upon his return.

Going up and down in weight is a challenging affair. And one of the main protagonists who has made sure McGregor makes weight is his nutritionist Tim Kennedy. A fellow Irishman, the University College of Dublin alumnus is constantly with McGregor in his camps making nutrition and supplement plans, observing him and even cooking for ‘Notorious’.
“It entails seven-days-a-week work. Obviously, you get time off and things like that. But it entails daily nutrition plans, supplementation guides, cooking, being at all his training sessions, observing, taking data — the more data you take, the better,” Kennedy said in a 2021 interview with ESPN before ‘Mac’s bout against Cerrone.
