“Without My Leg Being on Fire” – After Intolerable Pain, Ronnie Coleman Reveals How He Decided To Retire & Get ‘Serious Done’ to Joe Rogan

Joe Rogan is a big-time fitness enthusiast, and he’s talked about staying fit several times on his podcast. Moreover, Rogan has also hosted several guests from the fitness industry.

In one of the more popular episodes, the Podcaster attended former Mr. Olympia, Ronnie Coleman. The pair discussed everything from fitness to the bodybuilder’s whole career.

Furthermore, as the conversation progressed, the bodybuilder shared the time when he kept working out despite suffering from intolerable pain due to a hernia.

Coleman reveals that he competed while suffering from intolerable pain

The conversation started with the bodybuilder, narrating the time when he went to the emergency room due to excessive back pain. He said, “That’s when I had an MRI a couple of days later and found out it was herniating.”

“So I stayed at home for a couple of weeks, sat on the couch, and didn’t do anything. And two weeks later I went to the gym and the first exercise was a squat”

It shocked Rogan to hear that Coleman did squats despite suffering from a hernia. However, the bodybuilder made it clear that he couldn’t perform to his best because of the pain.

The host then enquired when Coleman got his first surgery after this incident. He said, “how long before you got your first surgery?”

To Rogan’s surprise, the eight-time champion said, “Ten years later.”

Rogan, who was visibly stunned upon hearing it, said, “Ten years! So it was like intolerable pain going on?”.

“I couldn’t walk like, no more like 25 feet. Without my leg being on fire. My feet being on fire… so I knew it’s time to get some serious done here.” Coleman replied.

He also told Rogan that the surgery performed on him was called “Laminectomy” where the doctors shave the Hernia off. Moreover, he also told Rogan that the surgery was done after his retirement.

Ronnie Coleman won his first Mr. Olympia title in 1998 and after that, he went on to win the title, eight consecutive times. He went on to tie Lee Haney’s record for most Mr. Olympia titles, furthermore breaking the record of bodybuilding, legend Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Coleman is regarded as one of the greatest bodybuilders of all time. The legend won his last title in 2005 and announced his retirement in 2007.
