The UFC Lightweight division is teeming with fighters who are widely considered to be some of the most well-rounded fighters in the world. Former UFC Lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov is an exemplary fighter who was undefeated throughout his UFC reign. And Justin Gaethje is one of the few fighters who gave Nurmagomedov a tough fight.

Gaethje, who is the current UFC BMF champ, is a brave and unpredictable fighter, who never backs down from any challenges. He recently fought against fellow Lightweight fighter Dustin Poirier to win the BMF title and it’s safe to say that his iconic leg kick had a major role to play in his victory. Recently, a video has been going viral on social media where Gaethje has been seen on the receiving end of a similar kick – but all in jest.

It is not uncommon among fighters to have friends from different promotions. And sometimes, fighters from different promotions and combat worlds get together and spar – in jest. It seems that legendary Bellator MMA fighter Brandon Girtz shares a great bond of friendship with the UFC BMF champ.

A video has been doing its rounds on social media where Girtz has dished out to Gaethje, what he serves to his opponents in the UFC Octagon. The two fighters were seen squaring up. Then, Gritz proceeded to land a really heavy leg kick that Gaethje seemed prepared for but actually wasn’t. The shot was a really heavy one and took some out of Gaethje, who was then seen limping away.

There were other people around the two fighters who were having a good laugh and recording the ‘friendly spar’. However, one cannot help but wonder – could Girtz have taken it if Gaethje had unleashed one of his cannons on him? But for now, it seems the scores are not going to be settled, since it was all in jest. However, that doesn’t discount the power that Gaethje’s leg carries. Throughout the division and even the UFC, fighters have spoken about how devastating his leg kicks can be.

Fans react to Gaethje eating a heavy leg kick

It’s not news that Justin Gaethje is a really tough individual. Even the undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov has attested to that. However, just standing there and taking a heavy shot from an opponent and walking it off takes a different breed of fighter. That is why, when the fans saw Gaethje just take a heavy kick from Girtz, they couldn’t help but be amazed by Gaethje’s durability.

That leg kick would literally have me out of commission for over a week,” said one. “Holy sh*t,” another exclaimed. “It’s actually crazy how gentle that looks but the feeling is far from gentle,” pointed out one person. One fan found the fact that they two were engaged in this in good fun, nearly unbelievable. “doing this for fun is crazy,” he said.

One fan made light of the situation by commenting, “Why do women live longer than men?”. However, fans of Justin Gaethje were not far behind in reminding Girtz that a kick from Gaethje would be quite deadly.

Comments like, “It’s all fun games till he says my turn,” “Now let Gaetjhe throw one,” and “gaethje then says “my turn”“, were some of the comments in Gaethje’s ‘defence’.
