UFC heavyweight Ciryl Gane spoke to MMA Junkie’s Farah Hannoun and went over some massive news that broke last week. It was announced that Gane would be one half of an interim world title fight against Derrick Lewis. The fight is booked for UFC 265 and came as a shock to many considering the circumstances around which the interim title was introduced.
‘Bon Gamin’ shared some shocking news to Hannoun that gave a fresh perspective on the aforementioned booking. Gane revealed that the UFC had reached out prior to his UFC fight against Alexander Volkov and introduced the idea of an interim title fight. The news came as a surprise to many as there was no indication that a verbal understanding had taken place.

“We knew already [about the interim title fight] because just before the fight UFC sent a message to Ferdinand Lopez and a message like ‘Yes, this is the semi-final, so do your job and we’ll see after that. I think it was an interim title shot, yes. But I’m not sure because they didn’t text with me. It was Lopez, and Lopez told me, ‘Man, do your job, and after the fight you’re going to be happy.’”

“It was good because it’s good news, but I was really focused on the fight and no more pressure,” Gane said. “I just said, ‘Man, Ok, this is good news but I have to do the job before that, so stay focused on your job, on the fight against Volkov and after we’ll see.’ I was really focused, no pressure.” [H/t MMA Junkie]
Ciryl Gane: Making his mark
The Frenchman has had a quick rise through the UFC ranks and is now ranked number 3 in the division. He just has 9 professional fights thus far, however, he’s 6-0 under the bright lights of the UFC.

With a chance to become an interim champion in his tenth fight, Gane’s ceiling is limitless. He’s had two straight UD victories and the only thing going against him is that he hasn’t secured a stoppage win this year.
