Potential matchups for Conor McGregor when he returns

Recently, McGregor has teased quite a few matchups during his time out. He had a huge Twitter spat with former interim UFC lightweight champion Tony Ferguson. That is a matchup that would get everyone excited. Ferguson is also one of the most popular fighters in the promotion and a fight between the two will definitely break a lot of PPV numbers. Both men are on losing streaks and would want to get back at the top of the division, so this fight might make sense.

Another name that has popped up recently is that of Max Holloway. The former UFC featherweight champion replied to a tweet by McGregor. He shared a picture from their fight, back in 2013, which the Irishman won via a unanimous decision. ‘Blessed’ reply apparently suggested he would be ready for a fight in March 2022.

This fight would be huge as well, because after losing to McGregor, Holloway went on a 13-fight win streak, and is one of the greatest featherweights of all time. Fans would love to see these two fight inside the octagon.

Then, of course, there is a potential fourth fight with Dustin ‘The Diamond‘ Poirier. Their last fight ended on a controversial note, and according to many, that was not a genuine victory for Poirier. The former interim UFC lightweight champion has a fight for the title at UFC 269. It will be interesting to see how the UFC books this rematch if they do if Poirier ends up winning the belt.

A trilogy fight against Nate Diaz would get the fans most excited. The two men went to war and blew the roof during both the fights. However, with McGregor’s injury and Diaz only having one fight left in his contract, it might be difficult to book this fight.

The UFC and the fans would want McGregor to come back as soon as possible, as there are some exciting matchups waiting for him.
