The key element to Khabib’s performances has come through the explosion of his takedowns and control. He utilizes his famed ‘Dagestani handcuff’ maneuver to gain the upper hand and eventually lay waste to his opposition. Not to mention, he’s efficient in his ground assault and doesn’t expend unnecessary energy when grounding an opponent.

Khabib Nurmagomedov: A legacy fighter

The 29-0 champion retired at UFC 254 after submitting interim champion Justin Gaethje via Triangle. Nurmagomedov applied pressure from the get-go, and his striking looked impressive as well. ‘The Highlight’ had no answer for Nurmagomedov, and he visibly cracked under the pressure.

Such is the fate for all men who have stood across ‘The Eagle’. He has taken the number one spot on the pound-for-pound rankings, and it’s easy to see why. However, despite his dominance, Nurmagomedov decided to walk away from active competition. In a move that took fans by surprise, he laid out his gloves on the canvas after his win.

UFC fans have held out hope that Nurmagomedov reconsiders his decision to step away from MMA. What’s more, UFC President Dana White has come out and predicted that the lightweight champion will return to attempt a 30-0 record. Chiefly, ‘The Eagle’ had originally aimed to reach 30-0 before the untimely and tragic death of his father.
