However, this is not the first time the Dutch martial artist has failed a PED test. Overeem faced PED troubles after joining the UFC in 2011 as well. During his tenure, Overeem served a nine-month-long suspension handed to him by NSAC after testing positive for elevated levels of testosterone. His results were more than twice that of what the commission permitted. As a result, he also lost a chance at the UFC heavyweight title.

Overeem’s run in the UFC came to a close in February 2021 after a string of losses. Following his release, the 42-year-old returned to kickboxing to face long-time rival Badr Hari. Unlike in his UFC days, Overeem showed up jacked to his trilogy fight with Hari and secured an impressive win. However, reports of a failed PED test surfaced soon after.

The reports that came out in November 2021 stated Overeem had failed PED tests for one sample. A second sample had to be tested before any concrete conclusions. Now, the former Glory kickboxing champion has tested positive for both samples and is facing dire consequences.
