The undisputed champion in Israel Adesanya will be away from the 185-pound division for a meaningful period as he is gearing up for his fight against 205-pound champion Jan Blachowicz to capture the light heavyweight strap. If the past is any indication, a quest for becoming UFC ‘Champ-Champ’ usually leads to the divisions being held up.

The middleweight contenders will have several months in 2021 wherein securing a title fight is out of the question. It’s unclear whether an interim belt will be on the line due to Adesanya’s expected absence from middleweight.
