Conor McGregor cannot stop getting into trouble. The latest in McGregor’s long line of misconducts came a couple of days ago as the Irishman spit on a fan’s face for daring to cheer arch-rival Khabib Nurmagomedov in his presence. Some saw it as a despicable and dishonorable move on the Dubliner’s part, while others were a bit more understanding.

Firmly in the latter camp is former 170lbs title challenger, Jake Shields, who publicly came out in support of McGregor’s actions. “I’m not a Conor fan but if you come into his personal space and disrespect him you deserve to get spit on if not knocked out,” Shields posted on X along with the video of the incident.

But a closer look at the video Shields himself posted seems to tell a very different story. The first thing to notice is that it wasn’t the fan who approached ‘Mystic Mac’. No. McGregor was walking in the other direction when the fan shouted “Let’s go Khabib” from behind the Dubliner.

The Irishman, who could (and probably should) have ignored the comment and kept walking, instead stopped and took a U-turn and walked up to the fan. It was, in fact, McGregor who intruded on the fans’ personal space and not the other way around, as Shields claimed. The fan doesn’t seem to be at fault at all.

He just cheered for his favorite fighter, undoubtedly to annoy McGregor, but that’s just part and parcel of being a public figure. People will say things to you that you don’t like. That doesn’t mean you walk up to them threateningly with your posse and spit on them. In fact, the aggrieved fan, if he so wants, could sue the Irishman since spitting on someone can qualify as assault in most US states. But then again, McGregor has been on a downward spiral recently, which has fans, and now even Dana White worried about his fighting future.

What the hell is going on with Conor McGregor’s UFC comeback?

Everybody and their grandma are tired of waiting for Conor McGregor’s UFC comeback. The Irishman, of course, has not fought in the past four years, but cannot stop promising, nay, teasing fans about it. To the point that most have given up hope and think ‘Mystic Mac’ is done with the UFC.

But there’s just one problem- the Irishman is still under contract with the UFC and won’t be a truly free man unless he either fights out the two remaining fights or pays Dana White to end the contract. And the latter seems more likely with each passing day. In fact, even the UFC CEO has seemingly given up hope.

“Conor? I’m not sure when Conor will be back,” White told reporters last week at the post-UFC Saudi Arabia presser. This is the same Dana White who had been promising that McGregor will be back in 2025. Now he is not even saying that, which should worry McGregor fans. Dana White’s literal job as a promoter is to hype up his fighters and build up excitement for their fights.

But he just seems to have given up. Maybe the head honcho knows something the rest of us don’t and has concluded that McGregor will never be back in the Octagon. What do you think about Jake Shields’ defense of Conor McGregor?
