UFC BMF Jorge Masvidal has been fighting professionally for almost two decades. He rose as a street fighter from the backyards of Kimbo Slice and carried the sucker-punching skills he learned there to the UFC. ‘Gamebred’ displayed this as he reportedly punched Colby Covington outside the Papi Steak restaurant in Miami and broke his tooth.

The former UFC welterweight title challenger shed light on why he had to develop this “sucker punching” trait.

In 2016, Masvidal said, “I’m really known, like in my area of Westchester, Miami, Florida. I’m known like I’ve one of the best sucker punchers in the business, you know? Hell yeah, it isn’t. In the street it is. If you really if like, you’re a real street dude.”

“You know that you don’t tell somebody ‘hey, me and you, outside’. You might get shot, you might get killed, you know, so you learn to have like a really good sucker punch and a really good 50-yard dash.”

This has resulted in Masvidal becoming a striker- One who can throw mean punches in quick succession. He has done so in the octagon and away from it as well. However, the Colby Covington incident isn’t the first time ‘Gamebred’ has done so when not in a sanctioned UFC bout.

Jorge Masvidal hit Leon Edwards with a sucker punch

‘Gamebred’ Masvidal attacked Leon Edwards backstage after UFC Fight Night 147 at the O2 Arena in London, England. On the night, the American welterweight beat Darren Till via knockout and ‘Rocky’ defeated Gunnar Nelson.

After the event, Masvidal, who was being interviewed, saw Leon Edwards interrupt him. This incensed ‘Gamebred’, who went toward his fellow welterweight and hit him with three straight punches to his face (popularly referred to as three punches and a soda).

While he didn’t face serious issues because of his previous sucker punch incident in 2019, the 2022 incident has resulted in problems for Masvidal.
