Securing a bout against Jorge Masvidal would most likely be the best option for Burns barring an immediate title fight. ‘Gamebred’ is the biggest PPV attraction in the division and he’s a tried and tested draw at the box office. His fight against Kamaru Usman generated a lot of hype and revenue, thus solidifying his status as an earner.

Kamaru Usman has done a good job of beating almost all his threats systematically and thoroughly under the bright lights. He’s in the process of going through his rival for a second time and Burns wants a piece of the pie.

Gilbert Burns has called out Nate Diaz and Leon Edwards as well, with Diaz showing some interest in the fight. However, facing Masvidal would make the most sense given his cache as a star and as a feared contender. Gilbert Burns needs a couple more wins on his resume and Jorge Masvidal would be a huge name to add to his hit list.

Gamebred’ is in need of a win after losing two fights on the trot to Kamaru Usman. MMA fans and pundits have begun questioning if his recent skid will affect the way in which he is perceived at the box office. However, the general consensus is that his stardom has now successfully crossed over to the mainstream.
