UFC 300 and its enormous success may have been the vindication that CEO Dana White was looking for. During the months leading up to the event, White had proclaimed in an interview with TNT Sports, “UFC 300 is the greatest combat sports card ever assembled.” And with incredible fights that included Max Holloway’s stunning buzzer-beating knockout of Justin Gaethje, and Alex Pereira’s defense of the light-heavyweight title, the event was a resounding success.

However, the UFC boss wasn’t happy with just putting on a show for the fans, as he took to social media to ‘diss’ all the media personalities who had doubted the event. As such, Brendan Schaub, who also featured in White’s ‘diss’ video, recently responded to the move by the UFC head honcho with an interesting perspective on the relationship between Dana White and the media that constantly seem to be getting under his skin.

Brendan Schaub’s response to Dana White’s ‘diss’ video brings up an interesting point

While there was considerable hype surrounding the landmark UFC 300 event, there were also questions being raised about it. According to ex-lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in a conversation with MMA Junkie, “Justin Gaethje vs. Max Holloway: It makes no sense – my opinion.”

And in the video shared by Dana White on social media, Brendan Schaub stated, “UFC 300 makes no sense. Is any fight on this card 300 worthy? No.” These comments indicated the general outlook of many prominent figures in the MMA world towards UFC 300.

But according to Schaub, White’s choice of using a ‘diss’ video to address the negative responses may be a move only the UFC boss could have pulled off! As heard on a clip shared on his official Instagram account, the former UFC heavyweight stated, “Shout out Dana White, so Dana White does this thing on UFC 300, he basically made like his version of a diss track, of all the people in MMA media, not all, he left out a few. But some of the people in MMA media who were kind of critiquing UFC 300.”

Schaub further explained that White’s “grind” mentality is what separates him from other executive figures in the combat sports world. However, he defended the contrasting takes that were highlighted in the video as, “This side of the media that doesn’t work for the UFC and work for ESPN or is under the thumb of Dana, you need us.  It can’t be just a j**k-off fest of the UFC because then that’s not media, that’s propaganda. Then you’re no different than Fox or CNN.”

In conclusion, Brendan Schaub’s commentary sheds light on the delicate balance between constructive criticism and unwavering support for the UFC. By acknowledging the necessity of holding the organization accountable while also respecting White’s relentless dedication, Schaub offers a nuanced perspective on the intricacies of media scrutiny in combat sports.

Nevertheless, despite the initial criticisms of the UFC 300 card, the numbers of the aftermath highlight just how massive the event was for the promotion!

UFC 300’s massive success lives up to White’s predictions

In the video shared by Dana White, it was stated that the UFC 300 event was the largest in terms of attendance in the history of the T-Mobile Arena. The card also featured the most-watched prelims in ESPN’s record with the promotion, the highest per capita numbers for merchandise sales, and a slew of other incredible figures and records.

As such, the words from Dana White’s past interview feel appropriate at the moment, as he had boldly proclaimed before the event even took place, “…almost every single fight features a ranked contender, 16 ranked fighters in total. And it’s expected to break every record at the T-Mobile Arena with a $15 million gate. So, UFC 300 is the greatest combat sports card ever assembled. I mean if you go back throughout history, even boxing.”

And so, White’s unapologetic response to media skepticism, exemplified by the ‘diss’ video, underscores his determination to defend the UFC’s reputation amidst criticism. While his approach may be polarizing, it highlights the passion and drive that have propelled the UFC to unprecedented heights. In the end, UFC 300 stands as a testament to the resilience and innovation of the UFC under Dana White’s leadership. What were your thoughts on the event? Share them in the comments below!
