The uncertainty surrounding Conor McGregor making his UFC return is slowly starting to diminish. He submitted a sample to USADA recently. However, people are wondering if he can replicate the performances of his past. Meanwhile, UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping recently sent a reminder to ‘The Notorious’ in that regard.

Conor McGregor hasn’t competed in many fights over the past few years. It has already been more than two years since he was forced out of action due to an injury, and many people believe that he may not be able to win another fight. But Michael Bisping had something to say about that in a recent interview.

There is no bigger star in MMA than Conor McGregor. That is a statement that hardly anybody will argue with. As such, Michael Bisping believes that if Conor McGregor can defeat Michael Chandler, who is his most probable comeback opponent, the UFC might give the Irishman another title shot.

The idea that McGregor could get another title shot stems from the fact he is the biggest star out there. There is no fighter who has the drawing power that the former double champion has. This is what has led Bisping to claim about the Irishman’s chances of getting a title fight.

“I’ll tell you what. If Conor McGregor beats Michael Chandler, he will fight for the title next. As simple as that. I mean, he’s the biggest star in the sport, he’s the biggest star in combat sports. Let’s be honest, he really is,” said Michael Bisping.

However, the Hall of Famer is still unsure if Conor McGregor can edge past Michael Chandler. ‘The Notorious’ is one of the most unpredictable fighters. But Michael Bisping believes that unpredictability is what has brought McGregor to the success he’s had. “Does he beat Michael Chandler? I don’t know. McGregor’s a crazy guy, and that craziness is partly why he was so good in the first place,” said Bisping. However, ‘The Count’ also gave McGregor a stern reminder, as the latter is gearing up for his UFC return.

Bisping claims that fighters can reach their peak only once in their careers

Michael Bisping cleared the air around Conor McGregor, making an impactful return to the UFC. He believes that the nature of combat sports is different from any other sporting discipline. Fighters can reach their best and prime status only once in their entire career. Similarly, he turned to McGregor and mentioned how his best time as a fighter was last in 2016 when he became the promotion’s inaugural simultaneous double champion. However, things started to dwindle down after that.

Bisping said, “But, as we know in combat sports, you only really have one peak. He [McGregor] was a two-weight division champion in 2016 and since then, he’s had mixed results against very good competition.” Since 2016, Conor McGregor has won only one fight and lost four. However, Michael Bisping claims that if anybody can make a comeback from that predicament, it’s only McGregor. “But can he reclaim that kind of greatness that he had in the past? I don’t know. If anyone can do it, it’s Conor McGregor. But as I say, when you reach the top of the mountain, then you start to come down the other side,” said the Hall of Famer.

We will have to wait and see how things pan out for ‘The Notorious’ in the days and months to come.
