Alexander Volkanovski has fallen to Ilia Topuria at UFC 298. After months of build-up and Topuria calling Volkanovski an “old man”, ‘El Matador’ has proven his mettle in the featherweight division. And the win came via a brilliantly placed knockout.

Volkanovski and Topuria went blow-for-blow for most of the fight which lasted for 2 rounds. In the second round of the fight, ‘Volk’ landed a few good kicks and several good punches but Topuria’s agility proved too much for him. And when the time was right, the undefeated fighter struck hard.

Ilia Topuria has arrived leaving Joe Rogan in awe at his win

Ilia Topuria came into the UFC 298 cage looking to win. And at the end, he had Bruce Buffer announcing him with the classic “and new!” announcement. “It doesn’t matter where you come from . . . it’s much more important what’s in front of you than what’s behind you.” He told Joe Rogan in the post-fight interview.

Topuria landed a brilliant combo once Volkanovski was against the cage in the second round. A right hand to the chin and ‘The Great’ toppled to the ground in a rather unexpected moment that had even Rogan shocked. “You see his body immediately collapse” he said from the desk as ‘El Matador’ claimed the victory.

The Spaniard was landing fewer strikes in the very first round but it was all a precise plan. Now Topuria wants none other than the infamous ‘Irishman’. “Conor McGregor, if you still have some b*lls, I will be waiting for you in Spain.” Do you think he’ll get to fight ‘The Notorious’ next?

This isn’t the first time Topuria has called him out. He’s been beefing with the Irishman since before the matchup. In fact, even before the last UFC 298 presser where he taunted the ‘old-man Volk’. It looks like all his confidence wasn’t in vain. But has the Irishman responded?

Will Conor McGregor fight in Spain?

Ilia Topuria has already offered a Spain matchup to the UFC. Again, this has happened multiple times. Meanwhile, Conor McGregor is yet to speak out against the featherweight fighter. He has his focus sharp on none other than Michael Chandler.

Chandler and him were supposedly rumored to fight on June 29th but of course, ‘The Notorious’ wasn’t serious about his claim. It was quickly dismissed by Dana White and then, McGregor kept teasing a return at UFC 300 for the main event instead.

Now, the main event has been announced to be Alex Pereira going up against Jamahal Hill for the light heavyweight championship instead. So once again, ‘Mystic Mac’ has been sidelined by the promotion. Is Topuria McGregor’s only remaining option for a comeback?
