Sean Strickland is one of the most noted names in the entire UFC. Strickland has fought noted opponents like the current Middleweight Champion, Alex Pereira, and several others. ‘Tarzan’ currently boasts an enviable record of 25-4-0 in his entire MMA career. He is known for his efficient striking inside the octagon and brash talking on the mic. Strickland also possesses a knack for commenting on various other issues apart from the fight game. Earlier this year in March, Strickland went vocal about the infamous slap incident that happened at the stage of the Oscars involving the noted actor, Will Smith, and the famous comedian, Chris Rock.

Strickland’s tweets clearly implied that he didn’t support Will Smith’s action of slapping Chris Rock in front of the entire audience of the Oscars. He also fired at Jada Pinkett Smith with a few lewd words in one of his tweets.

Sean Strickland lauded Chris Rock and derided Will Smith in his tweets

Chris Rock had cracked a joke on a disease that Jada Pinkett Smith was suffering from. It is called ‘Alopecia’ and caused Jada Smith to lose her hair. However, the joke didn’t sit well with the actress. Her husband decided to step up for her to teach a lesson to Rock with a slap for cracking a joke about such a sensitive issue.

However, Strickland was evidently against Smith’s display of such outrageous behavior. He also connected the noted UFC Welterweight Fighter, Colby Covington to this incident and wrote, “Lmao!!!!!!!!! If that was [Colby Covington] he would of been on the phone calling 911 while trying to give Trump a hand job.” It was evident that ‘Tarzan’ didn’t think too highly of ‘Chaos’.

Will Smith initially also laughed out with the crowd at Rock’s joke. But it was Jada Smith who was offended, and it was evident from her facial expressions. Strickland viewed her as the ultimate reason behind will Smith’s behavior and fired at her through a tweet.

The coveted scrap between Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson in 2002 was when I realized the passion for combat sports within my family. My interest in combat sports began watching scripted pro wrestling shows. It was my father who directed me towards combat sports and it wasn’t until the late 2010s that I discovered the world of MMA and the UFC. Like many of you, I too, tuned in for the infamous Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor bout live on October 6, 2018. Being an ardent fan of the UFC (and Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier), I was always looking to have conversations about the same with others. But to my disappointment, I hardly found any followers of the sports to interact with. So I took it upon myself to do my part in popularizing the thrill and the agony behind the purest form of unarmed combat. At EssentiallySports, I try to bring the readers closer to the athletes and focus my coverage on exploring the human side of these martial artists. I’m a musician during my time free from reporting MMA. I operate as the lead vocalist of a rock band that aims to make their mark among the audiences with their original alternative-hard rock songs.
