UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling took to social media and responded to a fan who recently slammed Petr Yan. Sterling has taken every opportunity he’s had to trash the current interim champion who hails from Russia. Chiefly, the fan accused Yan of Performance Enhancing Drug [PED] usage and Sterling was quick to side with the Twitter user.

Sterling talked about how USADA wasn’t likely putting in their vast resource pool to test international athletes, especially those fighters in Russia. He also brought up the Olympic scandal involving doping allegations leveled against Russian athletes. The controversy led to several Olympic medals and other world championships being stripped of Russian athletes.

Such allegations against Petr Yan are baseless at this time as he’s never popped for any banned substances. However, Aljamain Sterling’s sheer disdain for Petr Yan means that nothing is off-limits. In turn, ‘No Mercy’ Yan has also been relentless in his campaign to trash talk Aljamain Sterling at any opportunity he gets.

UFC 263 rewind: Petr Yan vs Aljamain Sterling

One of the most controversial UFC title fights went down in 2021 when Petr Yan defended his strap against Aljamain Sterling. Both men were considered the very best in the division heading into the fight and were expected to put on a banger. However, the fight would end rather anticlimactically, with the gold strap exchanging hands in the most bizarre way possible.

Yan is known to start off slowly and Aljamain Sterling was quick to capitalize on his rather conservative pace. However, in classic fashion, Yan quickly changed gears after making some necessary reads in the fight. He was able to tag ‘Aljo’ on the feet and some fans believe ‘The Funkmaster’ was losing steam in the fight.

However, Yan lost the plot when he landed a flagrant knee to a downed opponent and Sterling hit the canvas. The fight was eventually waved off and Sterling became the first champion to win a UFC title via disqualification. This has put an asterisk against his title win and fans can’t wait to see both men run it back once again.
