Since McGregor is known across the realm of MMA as an established trash talker, who else could have been there to attempt to sling mud on Poirier? During their beef, the scenario veered off course when McGregor tried to drag Poirier’s wife into the equation. The Irishman launched a sly attack at Poirier on Twitter, drawing his wife Jolie Poirier into their acrimonious exchanges with a screenshot that appeared to show her trying to message him on Instagram.

Later on, when asked about it, McGregor responded, “You’d have to ask her, I haven’t a clue. You’d have to ask her, I don’t play that game… another man’s wife.”

McGregor attempted to insult Poirier personally, as was clear from his words. He made an attempt to bring up Jolie Poirier, which exposed his trash-talking deeds. Although McGregor attempted to highlight the message request in his tweet, he had no idea that Poirier wouldn’t take it seriously because he had prepared a sarcastic reply while in a YouTube interview.

It seemed like McGregor’s throwing shades didn’t have a huge impact on Poirier’s serenity. ‘The Diamond’ looked calm as he took each allegation of McGregor with a grain of salt and responded to them. While speaking to UFC legend Michael Bisping on TNT Sports, Poirier addressed the false claim. Bisping quizzed Poirier by asking, “How does that mind game affect you?”

Losing himself from the worries, Poirier replied, “If it was real and my wife was messaging him or something like that, then it’s a good one.”

He further said, “But it’s fabricated… me and my wife were laughing about it while we were in the grocery store. There’re no holds barred in the sh*t talking.”

Considering the claims to be fabricated, Poirier explained that his wife was with him in a grocery store. They were both chuckling as they discussed the post and the erroneous acquisitions.

While both fighters came up with their salvos, it surely would have helped to step on the gas. Since Poirier was right on the money with his reply, he eventually went on to stand tall in the trilogy. Additionally, at UFC 264, McGregor suffered a leg injury while stepping back, leading to a TKO victory for Poirier, who secured the trilogy with two wins over the Irishman. Even Poirier had expressed his notions in the past about the beef.
