In an interview with TMZ Sports, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ had choice words for Chimaev. He said that everyone wants to see the two fight, but the Chechen’s refusal to make 170 has prevented it from being made. “I would love to [fight Khamzat Chimaev]. That’s my thing. I’m shooting for, um, this year in the fall… I’ve already said, hey, I’m ready to fight. But the thing too, is it has to make sense. Who on the planet didn’t agree that the Khamzat fight made sense it made perfect sense. but you’re a guy who’s been in the UFC what two years?” Kamaru told the host.
Usman has been looking to reclaim the middleweight title and is in search of an exciting opponent to make the case for a title shot. Chimaev is a popular fighter with name recognition and, thus, perfect for Usman. But the 36-year-old has named another fighter he wants to face.

Kamaru Usman wants Khamzat Chimaev to cut weight and fight him
The 36-year-old pointed out that he was ranked #1 in the welterweight division, and is the former champion. He pointed out that ‘Borz’, on the other hand, was a relative newcomer. Usman felt it didn’t make sense that he would have to leave the weight class he’s ranked first in to fight the newcomer Chimaev. “They have you ranked at number three in my division I’m number one and I say okay let’s fight… but then you say, No, I don’t want to make that weight come up to a little weight to fight me. Wait, so you want to tell me that the former champion at this way, who’s number one ranked in the world at that weight, that I need to move up to middleweight to fight you? Who are you?” an outraged Usman asked.

Clearly, Chimaev is the opponent that Usman wants to fight. Chimaev is scheduled to fight Paulo Costa at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi this October. Until the two can decide upon a weight class, the fight is dead on arrival. The Nigerian however, named Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson as the fighter he wants to face next. Do you think Khamzat Chimaev should come down to fight Usman? Or do you want to see Usman go up to middleweight and face ‘Borz’? Let us know in the comments section below.
