Years before Rogan‘s firsthand encounter with hypnotism, Mike Tyson, the legendary boxer, divulged the profound impact of hypnotherapy in his life during a podcast episode with Rogan. In addition, Tyson shared how his coach, Cus D’Amato, took him to a hypnotist to tap into his full potential.

The hypnotic experience involved complete relaxation, focusing on a state of nothingness, and embracing his primal nature as a savage intelligent animal. Under the guidance of the hypnotist, Tyson‘s conditioning was molded, shaping him into a ferocious fighter.

“He used to take me to a hypnotist. He was a hypnotist as well. We used to go in the hypnotist motions. You relax, you go under, you totally focus on blackness, nothingness. You go under just being the savage intelligent animal. (they say) you’re just working, you’re going to do this, you’re gonna be a ferocious animal, you’re gonna fight puff puff both hands to the body, you’ll use your jab, you’re gonna do this in ferocious fashion. They fixed all that in me as I was younger.”

It wasn’t until four years later that he would embark on his own hypnotic journey. During the #1966 podcast episode, Rogan revealed what he experienced with hypnotism. Rogan likened hypnotism to a different state of mind that resembled being under the influence of a drug. Further, he marveled at its strangeness but acknowledged its beauty and pleasantness.

Moreover, Rogan expressed how the experience allowed him to shed layers of conditioned thinking, giving him a fresh perspective on reality. He compared it to a psychedelic drug, which alters one’s perception, and the person sees things from a different angle.

“It seems like wow, this is like a drug like I’m on a drug. I mean, this is very strange, but it was very pleasant and it was very, it was very pretty. I was present and pleasant, I was like looking at things from a different angle. It’s almost like I have removed some layers of clothing that were like my conditioning in my life. I got to look at things like this as very much like a psychedelic drug.”
