The phenom of the lightweight division, also known as Khabib Nurmagomedov, found himself leaving the sport just as quickly as he dominated his competition in the division. However, a lot of fans still fail to accept that the Dagestani is truly done with the sport. Especially with rumors circulating about his return.

MMA fans were put through a frenzy recently after a rumor about the lightweight GOAT’s return went out of control. However, Javier Mendez, the coach of Khabib Nurmagomedov, came out and shut down all rumors about ‘The Eagle’s return. But soccer legend Zlatan Ibrahimović’s recent post on his social media reignited the spark about Nurmagomedov’s return.

One Instagram user had a sarcastic tone to his comment, questioning if the former champ was to fight the retired soccer legend: “khabib vs zlatan confirmed?!”

One fan’s comment hilariously narrated the feeling of how most people who viewed the post felt. He wrote, “Obviously a very reliable source and we should take this as fact then get mad at Dana/ufc when it’s not true.”

There were some comments who believed that the Dagestani would return to capture the second belt in a different division, stating, “I can definitely see Khabib coming back and winning the welterweight belt. It will definitely put him higher up on the goat list because Jones just did the same thing. GSP did the same thing as well so it makes sense.”

One fan stood firmly on his beliefs of the eagle, not returning to the cage to compete ever again. His comment wrote, “Khabib is not fighting again not buying it.”

Fight fans were definitely displeased with the post. Especially after all the teases of the Dagestani’s return over the past weeks. But what actually sparked the talk about his return in the first place?

An audio clip emerged on Twitter, which sounded exactly like Javier Mendez insinuating that a return for the former lightweight champion is likely to happen. The news caught on like wildfire, spreading through almost all MMA media outlets, and informing the fans about the news. However, Javier Mendez came out to confirm the reality of the situation, not long after the audio went viral.

Javier Mended in his statement said, “Just letting you guys know, stop all this nonsense regarding Khabib coming back and me and his training. There’s been no such thing happening. We’re not discussing training, we never have. Khabib is still devoted to what he said… He’s not going to ever fight. No training, no fighting, nothing.”
