UFC is losing its fighters at a concerning rate. Although it is nothing new since every promotion loses fighters due to retirements and other situations. However, the issue is ‘concerning’ because the reason for the loss is not natural. There is an immense shift in that trend that can be considered threatening for the league. The latest example in such a case is the ex-UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. ‘The Predator’ emphasized publicly why he left UFC and what he’ll be doing in the future. However, there is another fighter who actually switched sides before Ngannou.

Greg Hardy, an ex-UFC fighter and former NFL player, has decided to join a rival UFC league. The promotion Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship. As the name suggests, fighters have to fight without gloves. The MMA championship is growing and has a deep-rooted history. Hardy left UFC in 2022 and has now decided to kick off the year by joining BKFC. The fighter was recently reported to have been booked for a fight in the upcoming event of BKFC.

Greg Hardy last played for the NFL back in 2015. After his removal from the league, the player decided to join MMA. From 2020 onwards, he was fighting under the UFC. However, after three defeats in a row, the fighter decided it was not a good idea to stay in the competition. After his last fight in March 2022, Hardy left UFC. Fans did not hear much from him until June of the same year. It was when he was reported to sign a contract with the BKFC. Now, it is being reported that in 2023, Hardy will have his first-ever BKFC fight.

The fight will be a part of the event Knucklemania 3 taking place in Albuquerque, New Mexico. ‘Prince of War’ will be fighting against Josh Watson. The opponent seems like a fair match considering Hardy’s inexperience in the league.

Although the former NFL player is trained in MMA, all promotions can still be drastically different. In this case, there will be no glove protection. Fans can catch Greg Hardy‘s fight live on February 17, 2023.

Why is Greg Hardy leaving UFC such a big deal?

Although fighters are bound to leave the promotion someday, it seems like a problem because of the current situation. UFC is not getting a morale boost. Ever since Ngannou left the promotion, fans have also started seeing things differently. Although Greg Hardy left UFC way before ‘The Predator’, it is feared that this news may start a chain of fighters trying to follow suit.
